The most difficult part in designing the material you
want is selecting the right program. There is a sea
of choices and techniquely they are similar. In practice
they are worlds apart. Below is a General Program List
with the prefered format we accept.
We also offer ADOBE PDF jobREADY

converts your artwork from any program to a print ready
PDF with no conversion fee.

subject to design fees. Files sent in created by the
following programs with be charged with a reformatting
fee as listed below.
- Microsoft Word $35
- Microsoft Publisher $35
- Adobe Indesign $35
- Pagemaker $80
If using Quark
To avoid $80 setup fee - use following steps

2. Drag or open the EPS into photoshop, make sure you
are in CMYK at 300dpi
3. Check all the type positioning and images
4. Save as a .jpg
-native vs flat file
a native file is a file type that can be edited by
the program that created it. A flat file is locked/rasterized/uneditable
file that must be recreated to make changes to.
KAIEOS DESIGN STUDIO specifications
KAIEOS DESIGN STUDIO uses Direct to Plate Presses paired with
Guillotine Cutters. The templates available are built
from industry standard requirements for this equipment.
Below is an example of a business card template.
Business cards are to be created at 3.75 by 2.25 inches.
The final cut size is 3.5 by 2 inches. There must be
a .25 inch bleed margin applied to all sides. All non
bleeding text and images may not go into the .25 bleed
margin. This is to allow for proper cutting alignment.
Coated 14pt cardstock has a tendency to shift up to
a 1/16th inch while cutting which gives an 1/8th in
margin for error.

view full size on a standard computer monitor. Small
products are 150 dpi and large products are 72 dpi.
-Proof expectations
When receiving a proof, remember to check the following
to insure all work is correct.
spell checking, alignment, dimensions, font changes,
missing images or text,
-Conversion examples CMYK/RGB PMS/CMYK
-Setup authorization explanation
If we run into any problems with your files our prepress
department can fix the problem for a $25 File prep fee
and make sure the job is not delayed. This only covers
minor issues with layout and bleeds and does not cover
complex color editing or spelling corrections.
MAKE PRESS READY
A press ready document is the final form before being
plated and printed to the paper. This file should be
at the desired size and resolution for printing with
no extra information like notes or cropping marks. The
final form is sometimes confused with a proofing form.
The proofing form from many designers has notes and
design information that is not supposed to be printed.
This must be edited and saved in a print ready format
before going to press. All text must be "flattened"
or "outlined" to prevent font substitution.
-outline text explanation
Text is normally in an editable format when typed onto
a design. Outlining/converting to curves changes the
type to its relative shape preserving the look of the
text but making it uneditable.
-vector vs raster graphics
vector graphics are the mathmatical representation
of the artwork created ie. shapes, colors, text, vector
drawn images. Rasterized graphics are full color pictures
or flattened text saved in an uneditable format ie digital
images, flattened text, slides, etc.
-low res to high res explanation
In order for KAIEOS DESIGN STUDIO to print the highest quality
for all of our clients, we require image artwork to
be created 300 DPI. DPI stands for dots per inch. DPI
is a measure of the amount of detail in an image, independent
of the image's physical size. Anything printed lower
than 300 DPI can cause a loss in quality and sharpness,
this why KAIEOS DESIGN STUDIO requires all artwork to be printed
at 300 DPI.
-cutting explanation
Gang-style printing is the collection of multiple orders
printed on a large paper size instead of a single job
being printed on the matching paper size. This butts
all jobs together in a sort of jigsaw layout. Guillatine
cutters are used to cut down the large size paper to
the individual sizes. The trims approximately 1/16 in
off of all sides. So ordering a 4x6 postcard will yeild
a 3 15/16 x 5 15/16 postcard.
